What is the recovery time with IPL Photofacials?
IPL photofacials use a broad spectrum light to improve facial discoloration and sun spots on the face. The light energy is similar to laser, but is technically different that a single wavelength laser beam. In our office in Los Angeles, we typically use IPL photofacials for sun spots, age spots, melasma, sun damage, fine wrinkles, and facial redness. The IPL photofacials should be used in conjunction with a good sunscreen and topical treatment for skin discoloration. We recommend the Melaquin Skin Brightening Complex line of products, including Melaquin AM and Melaquin PM.
There is minimal downtime with the IPL procedure, as patients will return to normal activities after IPL. Some of the dark spots will become slightly more noticeable and the redness from the treatment usually subsides within a few hours. We recommend immediate application of a sunscreen, Melaquin AM Daily UV Protect or equivalent, and avoidance of direct sun exposure.
